3 Ways to Practice Self Love in 2021

Now that we’re two months into 2021, we’re looking for comfort and inspiration so we’re prepared for everything this new year throws at us. To help you do the same, we’re sharing three ways to help you practice self love and find comfort and ritual in your days.

1. Set Your Goals, But Give Yourself Grace

Every year, we create new goals. Last year’s might have been a total wash, because, well, covid. This year you might be tempted to avoid goals altogether, because who knows what will happen. If that’s your mindset, we’re not here to judge. But if you’re craving goals to keep you moving, to have something to look forward to, and to help you find structure and routine, make a few realistic goals that are achievable in today’s world. We’re making goals like reading two books a month, going for a daily walk, and (spoiler alert) creating new Deew offerings for you to enjoy (sign up for our emails to be the first to know when new offerings launch!).

But most importantly, if you do decide to set goals, give yourself grace. While we may have a better understanding of how this pandemic will affect our day-to-day lives in 2021, things are always changing. If a goal no longer serves you, let it go and start fresh, any time of the year.

2. Create Daily Rituals You Look Forward To

In 2020, all of our daily rituals went out the window. We couldn’t go to the gym, we couldn’t meet a friend for coffee, we couldn’t even grocery shop the way we used to. In 2021, we’re getting back to the daily rituals that bring us joy.

How? By finding creative ways to enjoy our favourite rituals while still saying safe at home.

Step 1: What are the morning and evening rituals you love? What do you find comfort in, what sparks joy and inspiration? List everything, even if it’s not possible right now.

Step 2: Now that you’ve got your list, identify what you can safely do and what you can’t.

Step 3: Think about how you can take the rituals you can’t safely do anymore and modify them for your current reality. For example, if one of your rituals used to be going to the gym, can you try home workouts like Melissa Wood Health or Yoga with Adriene

Step 4: Are there new rituals that would serve you? As the world changes, so do we. What you might have rolled your eyes at a year ago might serve you well now.

Step 5: Take all of these ideas and use them to create new routines. We love a good morning and evening routine, but maybe you need an afternoon routine, or something totally different. Whatever you need, create daily rituals to support you and to help you feel your best.

3. Give Yourself Permission to Invest in Yourself

We’ve noticed a tendency to just “get through the week”; to cope as best as we can with what we have, but let’s be real. This pandemic isn’t going away, lockdowns are continuing, and it’s going to be a bit longer before we’re back to normal. Just getting through the week isn’t cutting it anymore. We need to find ways to enjoy the weeks. Or at least make them less miserable.

Whether it’s a proper work-from-home set up (goodbye neck pain!), a new jar of your favourite cannabis cream (hello soft, glowing skin!), give yourself permission to invest in yourself and to set yourself up for success. You made it through 2020 and you’re surviving a pandemic every single day. You deserve it.
